Press Round-up: Aldermen push for Affordable Housing Ordinance to Fight Segregation and Chicago'
A group of North and Northwest Side aldermen have committed to bringing at least 50 CHA-subsidized affordable housing into their wards and called for action on the Keeping the Promise Ordinance. While parts of Chicago have a great deal of subsidized housing, many North Side wards have welcomed very few low-income housing options. The result is a city segregated by race, by resources, and by opportunity. While high-poverty neighborhoods need investment and the replacement of demomlished CHA housing, lower-poverty neighborhoods need to do their part in offering Chicagoans more choices about where they live.
On May 9th, Chicago Housing Initiative held a press conference with 7 of the aldermen who committed to doing their part in their wards. Here is some of the news coverage.
